Phase-Cut and DALI Interfaces: What to Verify

Technical education for lighting-control selection and planning. Always confirm model-specific electrical requirements in the relevant manufacturer documentation.

Different control methods

Phase-cut control modifies the AC waveform supplied to a suitable load, while DALI carries digital commands over a bus. A converter is not a substitute for confirming the load and electrical installation are designed for the selected approach.

Converter direction matters

Read the product name, its input and output sections, and the wiring diagram. A device accepting phase-cut input and generating DALI commands may not be suitable for converting DALI into phase-cut output.

Check the complete circuit

Confirm driver compatibility, allowed voltage, power and load type and whether an external supply is required. If the wiring involves mains voltage, a suitably qualified installer must complete the work.

Commission carefully

Verify the response across the intended dimming range and review any requirements for minimum load or configuration in the actual documentation.
